Wow! The 2019 Wisconsin State Fair Junior Show was one for the record books! In their final year of “junior show eligibility” (their human hit her last year of 4-H), the girls pulled out all the stops!

Jersey, Maggie, Misty, and all five of their babies (who went along for meal options!!) had a blast at State Fair.

Senior and Grand Champion Nigerian Dwarf Doe

BodyShops SBF Sun Ray, who we have called “Misty” since the day we bought her, was looking F-I-N-E and the judge agreed! He even said in the show ring, “She’s looking at me likes she WANTS to win… like she DESERVES to win… and she does!”

Champion Bred and Owned Nigerian Dwarf Doe

Pinehurst Queen of Hearts, aka “Maggie,” also caught the judges eye. In this category, all of the winning “Bred and Owned” does in milk come back to compete for this honor.

What’s so big about this “Bred and Owned” category??!

Well, in layman’s terms, it means that the exhibitor owned the mother of the goat and intentionally chose the father (for breeding purposes). The resulting babies are a result of your breeding decisions and carry your farm prefix as part of the registered name — hence PINEHURST QUEEN OF HEARTS. We therefore “bred” her and still “own” her!

This honor means a LOT to people who breed and raise show goats. It proves that you are working hard to increase the genetics of the next generation. Goats that are “pretty” are also “put together well” and therefore tend to live longer, healthier lives! (Think of dog breeders, if you know any!) These goats are judged on their conformation all based on a uniform scorecard. Good conformation leads to longevity and better production, for those who milk their goats as well!

And now you know!

And Finally…

At the end of the ALL the breed shows, all NINE Champions are invited back into the ring to compete against each other for the SUPREME CHAMPION DOE OF SHOW. They are judged based on how well they represent their individual breeds… and the top three are honored.

MISTY was up against 8 other champions and was named the THIRD OVERALL SUPREME CHAMPION DOE OF SHOW!!! Yes, we were excited and proud!

Following that, all nine BRED & OWNED BREED CHAMPIONS competed….and Pinehurst Queen of Hearts (MAGGIE) was named the RESERVE SUPREME CHAMPION BRED & OWNED DOE OF SHOW!
